Do I Need a Visa to Visit the United Arab Emirates?

As of January 2011 Canadian citizens require a visa in their passport in order to enter the UAE.

The Embassy of the UAE in Ottawa announced as of 02 January 2011 they will issue visas to Canadian passport holders. Canadian citizens on tourist and business journeys should have their visas arranged by the Emirati airline or hotel or travel company inside the UAE. The visa can then be received at the airport upon arrival in the UAE. It should be arranged beforehand by an office in the UAE.

Passport holders of the following countries may pay for a visa upon arrival in order to enter the United Arab Emirates for business or tourist visits lasting a maximum of 30 days, provided they meet the requirements of the Resident and Nationalisation Authorities:
Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA, Vatican.

All other nationals will need a visa which must be arranged in advance by the sponsor in the UAE. This is never done by the embassy in Canada.
